Nebraska Football recruiting looks to end on a strong note, but who's left?
1. Gatlin Bair (WR, 4-Star, Burley, ID)
Gatlin Bair possesses exactly what Matt Rhule is looking for: speed and durability. Bair's speed is especially impressive. He notched a 100-meter time of 10.18, which was the second fastest speed among all high school sprinters in the country (Star NFL Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill's fastest high school time was 10.19). He took an unofficial visit to Lincoln in March 2023 but hasn't taken his official visit yet. Bair had a busy June, taking official visits to TCU, Oregon, and Michigan the latter who many believe to be in the lead to land him. Nebraska is expected to have him on campus this fall on a game day, which could have its positives. However, it will be a tough race to land Bair. If he does commit to Nebraska, he has all the potential to be WR1. Bair is currently the 9th-ranked wide receiver in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
2. Grant Brix (OT, 4-Star, Logan, IA)
Grant Brix is a large human being. He stands at 6'5" and weighs 280 pounds, the "proper" size for a Freshman offensive tackle in the Big Ten. Scouting reports determine he has quick hands and a physical style of play, as well. Until Thursday, June 29th though, he was a virtual lock to join the Wildcats of Kansas State. However, he took his visit on June 23rd, and a week later reports started to suggest that he wasn't fully on board at K-State, while some reports suggested that he has flipped to Nebraska. Ask most Nebraska fans and they will tell you their football team needs improvement in the trenches. While Matt Rhule didn't fully buy into that narrative when he arrived at Nebraska, he has at least shown interest in restocking the cabinet. Rhule & Co. have done a good job of recruiting inside offensive linemen (they've signed 3), but they still need to add more to the offensive tackle position.
3. Amare Sanders (CB, 3-Star, Miami, FL)
Amare Sanders is a prospect from the Miami area that Nebraska is trying to compete with the likes of Florida and Miami for. At 6'1", 162 pounds, Sanders has the size to guard most Big Ten wide receivers. He does possess speed as well, as he ran an 11.10 100-meter dash. Sanders is the 81st-ranked corner in the nation according to 247Sports and has upside potential. Nebraska is in a good position to land Sanders and is "crystal balled" to join the Huskers according to Brian Christopherson and Steve Wiltfong. The corner position is not necessarily one that Nebraska lacks depth in, but in the future will need to bolster its rank. Sanders could be an answer to that and would become the 3rd CB recruit of the 2024 class.
4. Preston Taumua (IOL, 4-Star, Aiea, HI)
Preston Taumua is another Big Ten-sized athlete (6'4", 315 pounds) who comes with quite a bit of prestige. He is the top-ranked prospect in the state of Hawaii, and the 11th-ranked interior offensive lineman in the country according to 247Sports. He has also been invited to participate in the 2024 Polynesian Bowl. He has impressed scouts with not only his ability to run-block but pass-block as well. As mentioned earlier, Nebraska is looking to improve its offensive line. This is obvious by the commitments of three interior linemen already. However, Taumua would be the highest-ranked of that group. He has been forecasted to join the Oregon Ducks in 2024. However, he took his official visit to Nebraska on June 19th this summer, and the Husker coaching staff has been on fire with this class.
5. Jayshawn Ross (Edge, 4-Star, Kansas City, MO)
Jayshawn Ross has both the tools and the size to compete for a starting job as a Freshman at Nebraska if he so chooses to commit. He is the 34th-ranked Edge prospect in the nation, and the 8th highest ranked prospect in Missouri, per 247Sports. He stands at 6'4", 220 pounds, and has the speed to beat his man off the edge. In addition to the speed, he has the power to knock off his opponent while engaged at the line. He's athletic enough that he also played WR on the offensive side of the ball. Ross hasn't made any official visits this year so far, so his recruitment is still wide open. He was initially offered by Scott Frost and his staff but was offered again, this time by Rhule in June of 2023 while taking an unofficial visit. As much as the offensive line needed some retooling, the defensive line does as well. He would be a crucial addition to the 2024 class.
Nebraska's 2024 recruiting class currently ranks 15th in 247Sports' rankings. While that is a good ranking for the Huskers, they need to keep their foot on the gas pedal as the number will surely go down as the rest of the country add more commits. Thus far, Rhule and his staff have surpassed many fans' expectations and have proved that they can recruit to the school, even though it is not exactly a recruiting hotbed. Will the Huskers add any of the players listed here? Will they add others not on this list? Time will tell, but this class does look promising already.
